October 30, 2017, the first Joint Trade Asian Insurance Regulatory Conference was convened in Singapore. The conference was attended by approximately 50 insurance professionals from all parts of the globe, including distinguished delegates from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Canada and China, and representing many of the most prominent insurance and reinsurance companies from around the world. JT&N Partner Ms. Elsie Shi provided a presentation titled “Key Regulatory Updates and Trends Affecting the China Insurance Industry.”
Sponsored by Singapore Reinsurers' Association (SRA), the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR), the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), the International Underwriting Association (IUA), the American Insurance Association (AIA) and the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA), the conference afforded an opportunity for the discussion of critical insurance regulatory topics in the Asia regions affecting property & casualty insurance, life insurance, and reinsurance industry segments.
During the conference, Ms. Elsie Shi provided insights regarding contemporary regulatory developments involving the China insurance industry, as well as attendant opportunities and challenges faced by foreign investors in China’s insurance industry. In addition to Ms. Shi’s presentation, experts from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan and Korea also shared insights regarding contemporary regulatory developments in their own respective countries.
